Anita Huang is a mother-turned advocate and coach for families affected by selective mutism in Taiwan. Her bitter sweet journey began 17 years ago when her son stopped talking at school. She has transformed herself from a run of the mill working mom to a founder of the Selective Mutism Association of Taiwan and more recently the Free Voice Project. Anita’s passion has been bringing the world’s best learning resources of selective mutism to Taiwan, breaking barriers and building the environment to implement the relevant methods. She translated The Selective Mutism Resource Manual (Johnson & Wintgens), Selective Mutism in Our Own Words (Sutton & Forrester), documentaries and other sources. In 2018, she invited Ruth Perednik to Taiwan (more than 600 people attended the lecture) and has since offered Ruth’s online courses in Taiwan. Anita has also given talks at school settings around Taiwan, issued press release and spoken at public hearings, contributed to relevant law drafting and amendment, organized support groups and given individual coaching to parents.
