Erin Glow is a writer and journalist who has worked in entertainment news and is a new board member for the Selective Mutism Association. She was diagnosed with selective mutism at the age of 4 years old in the late 1980s and struggled with it until she made the difficult decision to speak during a class presentation in middle school. After that, she was still quiet and would only speak out loud when asked, but it was a major turning point and learning experience.
After graduating from college and starting a career in the writing industry in 2008, she has worked hard to raise awareness of selective mutism by sharing her story in various outlets, including her website, podcast and People magazine’s website (link: https://people.com/i-didn-t-talk-for-the-first-13-years-of-my-life-exclusive-11832983). She also created and hosted support groups for affected parents, fundraisers for SMA, and has volunteered as a state coordinator for SMA. She is currently working on a memoir about her SM experience.
